Some of you may have seen my taco ring, the recipe is here. This recipe is quite similar, just with a pizza twist to it. I was thinking of different things I can transform the ring into - of course, when I googled pizza ring, it was already experimented with. I have a few ideas up my sleeve for the future though :) Be sure to check back.
If you are having a few guests over and want a quick and easy appetizer, here is the perfect recipe!
Ingredients:
2 8 oz tubes of Pillsbury Crescent rolls
1/2 cup tomato sauce (either homemade, or jarred)
1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded (use more or less to your preference)
1 tbs garlic powder
1 tbs italian seasoning
Pepperoni slices (optional) * add any pizza toppings - be creative!
Directions:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
1. Line the crescent rolls in strips of two on a pizza stone (or baking sheet) - example below.
2. Spread a layer of sauce, then cheese. Top with pepperoni slices (I placed them on half of the ring only.
3. Fold over the edges to create the ring. Top with garlic powder and seasoning.
4. Bake in oven for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.* I have a gas oven which seems to bake a little bit quicker than electric ovens. * If crescents come out too doughy, try cooking for longer or raising the temperature of the oven to 450 degrees.
This is such a great idea so I decided to try it out! Unfortunately after 15 minutes of baking it was still pretty doughy. Any suggestions to fix this problem?
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you experienced an issue! I know sometimes when we make this at my mom's house (she has an electric oven, we have a gas oven) it takes a little longer to cook. Next time, you can try cooking for longer, such as 20 minutes - or try raising the oven temperature to 450 degrees. I hope that it works out better for you next time!
DeleteThis worked out beautifully! Thanks for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteDid you put your pizza stone in the oven cold after assembling this? I'm worried that it will crack the stone.
ReplyDeleteThe pizza stone will not crack. I usually put the stone in the oven before turning it on, and let the oven preheat with the stone in it. In this recipe, the stone went in the oven once preheated, and the pizza ring was assembled on a room temperature pizza stone. Hope this helps!
DeleteI wonder how delish a veggie pizza roll would be...
ReplyDeletedefinitely a must try! Broccoli especially :)
DeleteI added spinach and mushrooms to my calzone and it was divine!!!! thanks for the idea!!
ReplyDeleteLoved it!!! Made 2 of them...1 with pepperoni and one cheese and everyone loved them!

ReplyDeleteR u supposed to grease a baking pan
ReplyDeleteyou do not have to on a baking stone. i assume same with a pan as i don't typically grease the pan when making rolls or biscuits. :)
ReplyDeleteCan I make it in advance and bake it later?
ReplyDeleteThis was horrible . Over browned and under cooked. I used less than a teaspoon of garlic and seasoning. Too much. Your abbreviation for tbs was inaccurate.. I hope your didn't mean tablespoon! The dough for this recipe was much too sweet. Sorry, a giant failure, in my opinion. Down the disposal it went.
ReplyDeleteMy sincere apologies that this recipe didn't work out for you! Luckily in the world of recipes, I am sure there is one out there that will entice your taste. I do appreciate the feedback.
DeleteDelicious! This will be my third time making it. First times we did pepperoni with cheese. Right now we have one with ham and pineapple in the oven. Thank you for sharing this recipe, I am always looking for easy kid friendly recipes :)
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious...def gotta try this but i dont have a pizza stone, will it come out as good on a regular baking sheet?
ReplyDeleteThe pizza stones are great because they keep their temperature and cook more evenly than a baking sheet. I am not sure if it will cook the same on a baking sheet, as I have yet to try. If you do try it, let me know how it goes!
DeleteA few people have had a hard time with getting the dough to cook all the way thru, so a baking sheet may be a little trickier. You can always try lowering the temperature of the oven a little bit and cooking the ring for a few minutes longer than noted. Good luck!
I'll tell ya, we have four kiddos. Four of which are extremely picky. That said, we can never find anything to please everyone. This was a HUGE hit. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCan I use pizza sauce? Or is there a huge difference in taste with tomato sauce to use instead?
ReplyDeletePizza sauce or tomato sauce? Is there a difference with making this between the two sauces?
ReplyDeleteEither one will be fine to use! Just a thin layer, enjoy!
DeleteDo you overlap the crescent rolls on the bottom? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have made this recipe several times substituting meatless meatballs for the pepperoni. It came out wonderfully! In fact, we are having it tonight..
